A specialty-by-specialty, year-by-year record of every Black medical student who matches into residency — built to last, built to matter.
View 2026 Neurosurgery Match List →Black Men in Medicine exists to build and maintain a sustainable archive that documents, celebrates, and amplifies the presence of Black students entering every corner of American medicine — specialty by specialty, year by year, indefinitely.
This is not a one-time snapshot. Our goal is to create a living record that grows with every match cycle, across every major specialty, so that the progress of Black physicians in training is always visible, always citable, and never forgotten.
In 2026 we began with neurological surgery — 27 Black medical students matched, representing approximately 9.3% of all PGY-1 neurosurgery positions nationwide, the highest proportion ever recorded. More specialties are being compiled now.
These numbers matter. Representation matters. And the record must be kept.
"Our goal is to build a sustainable archive — every specialty, every year — so that Black excellence in medicine is always on the record."
